अमिताभ बच्चन, अजय देवगण, सलमान खान, आमीर खान, अक्षय कुमार आणि अनेक सुपरस्टार्सने खाकी वर्दी चढवून चित्रपटात नायकाच्या भूमिका वठवल्या. सिने कलाकारांनाच नाही तर खाकी वर्दीचे आकर्षण सर्वांनाच आहे. पण, सांगलीच्या एका पोलीस उपनिरीक्षकाने अभिनय आणि मॉडेलिंगच्या वेडापायी चक्क खाकीला रामराम ठोकलाय. पोलीस दलाची नोकरी म्हणजे स्वत:ला वाहून घेण्यासारखंच आहे. बारा-बारा तास ड्युटी, सततचा बंदोबस्त, वेळेवर जेवणा-खाण्याची बोंब, अशा अनेक कारणामुळे स्वत:कडे आणि कुटंबाकडे पोलीस जवानांना वेळ देता येत नाही. त्यात विरंगुळा म्हणून छंद कसा जोपासणार? तरी अलिकडे पोलीस दलातील अनेक कलाकार सोशल मिडीयामुळे प्रकाशात आले. पण, ते तात्पुरतेच! म्हणून सांगलीचा पोलीस उपनिरीक्षक श्रीकांत पाटील याने लहानपणापासून जोपासलेले अभिनेता होण्याचे स्वप्न पूर्ण करण्यासाठी पोलीस दलाच्या नोकरीला सोडचिठ्ठी दिली. ३० मार्च रोजी प्रदर्शित होणाऱ्या ‘गावठी’या मराठी चित्रपटाद्वारे मुख्य नायकाच्या भूमिकेतून श्रीकांत पाटील मराठी चित्रपटसृष्टीत पदार्पण करीत आहे.
ही बाब निश्चतच कौतुकास्पद आहे. पण, श्रीकांतचा हा जीवनप्रवास सोपा नव्हता. श्रीकांत पाच वर्षांचा असताना मुंबई क्राईम ब्रान्चमध्ये कार्यरत असणाऱ्या वडीलांचे कर्तव्य बजावत असताना निधन झाले. एक पाच आणि दुसरा तीन वर्षांचा, अशा दोन लहान मुलांची जबाबदारी श्रीकांतच्या आईने मोठ्या धीराने पेलली. शालेय जीवनात सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रमात हिरीरीने भाग घेणारा श्रीकांत अभिनयातही चमकू लागला. आपल्याला यातच करीयर करायचे, हे त्याने मनाशी पक्के केले होते. पण, आईच्या खांद्यावरचा भार थोडा हलका करण्यासाठी श्रीकांतने कलेचे वेड बाजूला सारून २०१० साली, वयाच्या एकोणीसाव्या वर्षी पोलीस दलात शिपाईपदावर रुजू झाला. सहा फूट उंच, गोरा वर्ण, आखीव-रेखीव चेहरा, पिळदार शरीर आणि घारे डोळे असलेला खाकी वेशातला पोलीस पाहून सर्वजण कुतुहलाने श्रीकांतकडे बघत.
सांगलीच्या विश्रामबाग पोलीस ठाण्यात स्पेशल पोलीस फोर्समध्ये कार्यरत असतानाच त्याने पोलीस उपनिरीक्षक पदाच्या परिक्षेची तयारी सुरू केली. तोवर धाकट्या भावालाही नोकरी लागली. पोलीस दलात असतानाही त्याने स्थानिक पातळीवर अभिनयकला जागृत ठेवली. २०१४ यावर्षी श्रीकांत पोलीस उपनिरीक्षकाची परिक्षा उत्तीर्ण झाला. बाल्यावस्थेच वडीलांचे छत्र हरपलेल्या श्रीकांतने वडीलांचे पोलीस अधिकारी बनण्याचे स्वप्न पूर्ण केले होते. पण, प्रापंचिक जबाबदाऱ्या पूर्ण केलेल्या श्रीकांतला चित्रपटविश्व खुणावत होते. त्याने आईला मनातील इच्छा बोलून दाखवली. मुलाच्या मनातील तळमळ जाणून असलेल्या माऊलीने श्रीकांतला त्याच्या आवडीच्या म्हणजेच अभिनय क्षेत्रात पाऊल ठेवण्यासाठी परवानगी दिली. हाती असलेली पोलीसाची सरकारी नोकरी सोडून श्रीकांत मायानगरी मुंबईत दाखल झाला.

किशोर नावीद कपूर यांच्याकडे त्याने अभिनयाचे धडे गिरवण्यास सुरूवात केली. छंद म्हणून जोपासलेली अभिनय कला आता अधिक भिनत होती. तितक्यात त्याला गावठी ह्या चित्रपटातील नायकाच्या भूमिकेसाठी बोलावणे आले. पहिल्याच ऑडीशनमध्ये श्रीकांतची निवड झाली आणि आज श्रीकांतचे चित्रपटात अभिनय करण्याचे स्वप्न तर साकार झालेच. पण, नायक म्हणून मराठी चित्रपटसृष्टीत पाऊल ठेवून त्याने आईने दाखवलेला विश्वास सार्थ ठरवलाय. पोलीस दलातील जवान अभिनेता आणि चित्रपटाचा नायक झाला हे समजल्यावर केवळ सांगलीकरांनाच नाही तर समस्त महाराष्ट्र पोलीस दलातील जवानांना अभिमान वाटतोय.
