भोपाळमध्ये राहणाऱ्या सृष्टी जयंत देशमुख यांनी नागरी सेवा परीक्षेत देशात पाचवा क्रमांक पटकावला आहे. पहिल्या प्रयत्नातच त्यांनी हे यश मिळवलं आहे.
महाविद्यालयात प्रवेश घेतल्यानंतर एका वर्षानंतरच स्पर्धा परीक्षेचा अभ्यास करण्याचा निर्णय सृष्टी देशमुख यांनी घेतला होता. काहीही झालं तरी चांगला रँक मिळवायचाच असं मनाशी ठरवल्याचं त्यांनी सांगितलं. आणि त्यांनी जे ठरवलं, ते करूनही दाखवलं.
सृष्टी यांनी केमिकल इंजिनिअरिंगमध्ये पदवी मिळवली आहे. तरी स्पर्धा परीक्षेकडे वळण्याचं कारण सांगतात, "कॉलेजला असताना दुसऱ्या तिसऱ्या वर्षातच मी परीक्षेची तयारी सुरू केली होती. तेव्हा मला असं वाटलं की केमिकल इंजिनिअर होऊन मी तितकं काम करू शकणार नाही जितकं सनदी अधिकारी बनून करू शकेन."
सृष्टी यांचं शालेय शिक्षण ते नागरी सेवा परीक्षेपर्यंतचा प्रवास भोपाळमध्येच झाला. त्यांनी भोपाळच्या एका कॉन्व्हेंटमधून शिक्षण घेतल्यावर 2018 मध्ये LNCT या महाविद्यालयातून पदवी प्राप्त केली.
त्यांनी भोपाळमध्येच राहून नागरी सेवा परीक्षेची तयारी केली. त्या दिल्लीत फक्त मुलाखतीसाठी आल्या होत्या. त्यांनी भोपाळमध्येच प्रशिक्षण घेतलं. वेळोवेळी इंटरनेटचाही वापर केला.
मोठ्या शहरातील क्लासेस
स्पर्धा परीक्षेसाठी साधारणत: विद्यार्थी मोठ्या शहरात क्लासेसला जातात. मात्र सृष्टी यांनी आपल्या घरीच राहून अभ्यास करण्याचा निर्णय घेतला.
याबद्दल त्या सांगतात, "इथे राहण्याचे काही फायदे आणि नुकसान दोन्ही आहेत. आईच्या हातचं जेवण हा सगळ्यात मोठा फायदा आहे. रात्री वडिलांबरोबर गप्पा मारत त्यांना अडचणी सांगू शकली. घरापासून दूर राहिलं तर सगळी कामं आपल्यालाच करावी लागतात. मात्र अनेक अडचणी आल्या हेही तितकंच खरं."
"क्लासेसमध्ये असं वाटायचं की काही उणीव रहायला नको. दिल्लीत जास्त चांगले क्लासेस आणि शिक्षक आहेत. मी स्वत:वर विश्वास ठेवला आणि इंटरनेटचा वापर करत राहिले. टेस्ट सिरीजच्या माध्यमातून तयारी केली. दिल्लीत अभ्यास करणाऱ्या लोकांसोबतही मी संपर्कात राहिले. त्यामुळेच कदाचित मला आजचा दिवस पहायला मिळत आहे."
सृष्टी देशमुख यांचे वडील इंजिनिअर आहे तर आई एका खासगी शाळेत शिक्षिका आहे. त्यांच्या घरी आजी आणि एक लहान भाऊ आहे. त्या आपल्या यशाचं श्रेय संपूर्ण कुटुंबीय, मित्रमैत्रिणी आणि शिक्षकांना देते. "UPSCची परीक्षा खूप मोठी परीक्षा आहे, या सगळ्यांच्या सहकार्याशिवाय ते शक्य नाही," त्या सांगतात.

अभ्यास कसा केला?
सृष्टी सांगतात की त्या प्रत्येक विषयांनुसार किती अभ्यास करायचा ते ठरवायच्या. समाजशास्त्र हा त्यांचा वैकल्पिक विषय होता. चालू घडामोडींवरही त्यांनी विशेष लक्ष दिलं. योग आणि संगीताच्या माध्यमातून त्या थकवा दूर करत असत.
या परीक्षेची तयारी करणाऱ्या स्पर्धकांना त्या सल्ला देतात, "चालू घडामोडींचा सतत अभ्यास करत रहा. या विषयाशी निगडीत अनेक प्रश्न पेपरमध्ये विचारले जातात. पेपर वाचत रहा. अभ्यास करण्याच्या एकाच पद्धतीवर विश्वास ठेवू नका. वेगवेगळ्या टेस्ट सीरिज देत रहाव्यात. मानसिक दृष्ट्या कणखर असणं अतिशय आवश्यक आहे. कधी कधी खूप ताण येणं अतिशय स्वाभाविक आहे. मात्र आपल्या प्रयत्नांवर विश्वास ठेवा."
महिलांसाठी आव्हान
या परीक्षेची तयारी करताना काय आव्हानं येतात या प्रश्नाचं उत्तर देताना त्या सांगतात, "हा प्रश्न मला मुलाखतीतसुद्धा विचारला होता. तेव्हा मी सांगितलं की आव्हानं प्रत्येक नोकरीत असतात. महिला असल्यामुळे माझ्या निर्णयाच्या स्वीकारार्हतेबद्दल प्रश्नचिन्ह निर्माण होऊ शकतात. मात्र मी माझं एकदम स्वच्छपणे आणि संपूर्ण तयारीसकट करेन. जेणेकरून काही अडचणी येणार नाहीत."
UPSCच्या मुख्य परीक्षेत 10,468 उमेदवार होते. त्यापैकी 759 जण यशस्वी झाले आहेत. त्यात 182 मुलींचा समावेश आहे.
पहिल्या 25 विद्यार्थ्यांमध्ये 15 मुलं आणि 10 मुली आहेत. जयपूरच्या कनिष्क कटारियाने या परीक्षेत प्रथम क्रमांक पटकावला आहे. अक्षत जैन दुसऱ्या क्रमांकावर तर जुनैद अहमद तिसऱ्या क्रमांकावर आहे.
