संपदा डावखरे
खूप दिवसांची इच्छा होती की एकदा तरी पूर्ण केस काढून बघावे. पण धाडस होत नव्हतं. त्यातच कोव्हिडची साथ आल्यानंतर केसांची चर्चा सोशल मीडियावर सुरू झाली. सलून आणि ब्युटी पार्लर बंद असल्यामुळे वाढलेले केस हा अनेकांपुढे गहन प्रश्न उभा राहिला. त्यातच काही मुलांनी टक्कल करून फोटो टाकायला सुरुवात केली.
लॉकडाऊनने दिलेली ही संधी मलाही खुणावत होती. पार्लरला पुढे अनेक महिने जाणं शक्य होणार नव्हतं. मग वाढलेले केस कसे सांभाळणार हा प्रश्न होताच.
त्यातच एका संध्याकाळी रोहिणीने (माझी मैत्रीण) व्हीडिओ कॉल करून सरप्राईझ दिलं. तिने आणि तिच्या नवऱ्याने टक्कल केलं होतं! तिने लगेच ते फोटो सोशल मीडियावर टाकून मला चॅलेंज केलं. माझ्या मनात विचार आला की आपणही हे चॅलेंज का स्वीकारू नये? अशी संधी पुन्हा मिळणार नव्हती. रोहिणीशी बोलल्यावर, तिला बघितल्यावर माझी हिंमत वाढली होती.
आमच्या घरी प्रत्येकाला निर्णय घ्यायचं स्वतंत्र आहे. मंदार (माझा नवरा) या निर्णयाला विरोध करणार नाही, याची खात्री होती. मुलीने आधी 'असं नको न करू' म्हणून लाडीगोडी लावली. मात्र नंतर तिने घडणाऱ्या प्रोसेसची मजा घेतली.
माझे केस कधीच लांबसडक नव्हते. त्यामुळे म्हणा किंवा मनात केसांविषयी आसक्तीची भावना नसल्याने म्हणा मला टक्कल करण्याचा निर्णय घेणं अवघड गेलं नाही. हे करण्यात त्याग आहे असंही वाटलं नाही.
केस कापल्यानंतर मी कशी दिसेन, याची उत्सुकता मात्र मनात होती. कारण माझ्या समजत्या वयात पहिल्यांदाच मी टक्कल करणार होते. विचार करण्यात मी फार वेळ दवडला नाही. रोहिणीशी बोलल्यानंतर दुसऱ्याच दिवशी मी केस काढायला सज्ज झाले. आधी कात्रीने केस छोटे कापले. नंतर माझ्या नवऱ्याने रेझरच्या मदतीने गुळगुळीत गोटा केला. मी पहिल्यांदा स्वतःला आरशात पाहिलं तेव्हा गंमत वाटली. आपण केसांशिवाय असे दिसतो तर.. असा विचार आला.
माझ्या सासूने हसून दाद दिली. नंतर माझे आईवडील भरपूर हसले. मी टक्कल केल्याचे फोटो माझ्या फॅमिली ग्रुपवर, मित्रमैत्रिणींच्या ग्रुपवर पाठवले. त्यावर वेगवेगळ्या प्रतिक्रिया आल्या. हे असं का केलं? घरात कोणी काही बोललं नाही का? अनेकांना अनेक प्रश्न पडले.
स्त्रीसौंदर्य आणि केस हे पूर्वापार चालत आलेलं समीकरण आहे. अजूनही आपण त्या विचारांना घेऊन जगतोय. त्यामुळे मुलींच्या मनात नकळत केस आणि सौंदर्याची सांगड पक्की होते आणि मग असं कुणी केलं की काहीतरी भन्नाट केलं म्हणून बघितलं जातं. म्हणूनच माझ्या टाईमलाईनवर अनेकींच्या 'बोल्ड डिसिजन', 'बोल्ड अँड ब्युटीफुल' अशा प्रतिक्रिया आल्या.
तिघी-चौघींना माझ्यापासून प्रेरणा मिळाली. त्यातल्या दोघींनी टक्कल केलं. काही जणी अजूनही विचार करत आहेत.

आपल्या समाजात केस काढण्याचा संबंध हा दुःखी घटनांशी जोडला गेलाय. आजही घरात दुखवटा असेल तर पुरुष मुंडण करतात. जुन्या काळी नवरा वारल्यावर स्त्रीचं केशवपन केलं जायचं. त्यामुळेच सगळं चांगलं आहे ना? मग असं का केलं? अशाही प्रतिक्रिया आल्या.
मी घराबाहेर पडल्यावर लोक वळून वळून पाहतात. ही बाईच आहे ना? ही पेशंट तर नाहीये? ही अशी का दिसतेय? असे अनेक प्रश्न लोकांच्या डोळ्यांत दिसतात. मला त्याचा काही फरक पडत नाही. उलट ते गोंधळलेले पाहून मला गंमत वाटते.
कुणाला ही फॅशन वाटेल. कुणाला स्त्रीस्वांतत्र्य वाटेल. काहींना हे फार मोठं धाडस वाटत असेल. माझ्यासाठी ही सहज केलेली कृती आहे आणि असं परत करणार हेही पक्कं झालंय माझं.
यातून झालेला फायदा म्हणजे स्वयंपाक आणि इतर कामं करताना मध्येमध्ये येणाऱ्या केसांपासून सुटका झाली. आणि महत्त्वाचं म्हणजे आधी जितका घाम यायचा तो एकदम कमी झाला. ज्यांनी मुंबईमधला दमट उन्हाळा अनुभवलाय, त्यांना नक्कीच समजेल मी असं का म्हणतेय. आता एकदम थंडा थंडा कूल कूल वाटतंय.
