काहीएका कारणामुळे तुम्ही ब्रेक-अप केलेलं असतं. मग कालांतराने अनेक जुनी जोडपी एकत्र का येतात?
काही महिन्यांपूर्वी, जेनिफर लोपेझ आणि बेन अफ्लेक पुन्हा एकत्र आले. त्यांनी एकमेकांपासून फारकत घेतली त्याला 17 वर्षं होऊन गेली आहेत. त्यामुळे त्यांच्या पुन्हा एकत्र येण्याच्या बातमीमुळे 2000च्या दशकारंभीचं स्मरणरंजन, तारेतारकांची वलयांकित प्रेमप्रकरणं आणि सांस्कृतिक विश्लेषण यांचा इंटरनेटवर महापूर आला.
लोपेझ-अफ्लेक हे 'पॉवर कपल' गणलं जात असल्यामुळे ट्विटर वापरणारी मंडळी आणि चटपटीत बातम्यांमध्ये गुंतलेली माध्यमं यांनी त्यांच्या नात्यावर लक्ष केंद्रित करणं स्वाभाविकच होतं.
पण नेहमीच्या सेलिब्रिटीविश्वासंदर्भातील गप्पाटप्पांपलीकडेही अधिक खोलवरचं कारण या घडामोडींमागे आहे. दोन पूर्वाश्रमीचे प्रियकर-प्रेयसी पुन्हा एकमेकांच्या प्रेमात पडले, यामध्ये लोकांना जास्त रस असावा.
जुन्या प्रियकर अथवा प्रेयसीला पुन्हा सामोरं जाणं ही अनेकांच्या प्रेमसंबंधांचं वास्तव आहे. हे वास्तव नकारात्मकही असू शकतं- त्यात सावधगिरीच्या कहाण्या असू शकतात आणि संबंधित जुन्या जोडीदाराला सूचक खुणा आकळल्याच नाहीत असंही घडू शकतं. पण जुनं नातं पुन्हा जोडण्याचा प्रयत्न करावा, असा मोह अनेकांना होतो.
काही लोकांसाठी तर ते एक उद्दिष्टच होऊन जातं. एकमेकांपासून दूर जाऊन पुन्हा एकत्र आलेल्या जोडप्यांचं प्रमाण 50 टक्क्यांपर्यंत असल्याचं संशोधनातून समोर आलं आहे.
काहींच्या बाबतीत कोरोनाच्या जागतिक साथीमुळे ही प्रक्रिया अधिक गतिमान झाली आहे. जागतिक आरोग्याचं संकट, एकाकी, सेक्सविरहित टाळेबंदीचा काळ, यांमुळे अनेक लोक त्यांच्या जुन्या जोडीदारांशी पुन्हा संपर्क साधून पूर्वीची चमक पुन्हा मिळवण्याची आशा राखून असल्याचं दिसतं.
पूर्वाश्रमीच्या दोन्ही जोडीदारांना नातं पुन्हा जोडण्यात रस असेल, तर त्यातून सकारात्मक लाभ होऊ शकतात- विशेषतः तुमची कष्टाची तयारी असेल आणि मन खुलं असेल, तर त्याचा उपयोग होतो.
लोक जुन्या जोडीदारांकडे आकर्षित का होतात?
जुन्या नात्यामध्ये पुन्हा प्रवेश करण्याचा सर्वांत मोठा फायदा म्हणजे तुम्ही कोणत्या अवकाशात प्रवेश करता आहात, हे तुम्हाला बहुतांशाने माहीत असतं.
"दीर्घकालीन नातेसंबंधांना पुन्हा तग धरण्याची संधी देताना संबंधित जोडीदाराशी चांगली ओळख असल्याचे खरोखरच काही फायदे होतात," असं शिकागोमधील जोडप्यांशी संबंधित थेरपिस्ट व गॉटमान इन्स्टिट्यूटमधील प्रशिक्षक मायकल नॅकनल्टी म्हणतात.
प्रत्येक प्रेमसंबंधांमध्ये काही 'कायमस्वरूपी मतभेद' असतात. एकाच जागी राहणं, पैसा वाटून वापरणं, सेक्स करणं, लहान मुलं सांभाळणं, मित्रमैत्रिणी, कुटुंबीय व इतर अनेक मुद्द्यांमधून वाद उद्भवण्याची शक्यता असते. दोन भिन्न व्यक्तिमत्वं व जीवनदृष्टी असणाऱ्या दोन व्यक्ती एकत्र येणं, हा नातेसंबंधांचा धागा असतो
बहुसंख्य जोडप्यांना नातेसंबंधांबाबत ज्या समस्यांना सामोरं जावं लागतं, त्यात 69 टक्के वाटा कायमस्वरूपी मतभेदांचा असतो, असं गोटमान इन्स्टिट्यूटच्या संशोधनातून स्पष्ट झालं आहे.
दीर्घकाळ टिकणारे व सतत धुगधुगत राहणारे प्रश्न हे नातेसंबंधांसाठी खऱ्या अर्थाने विषारी ठरतात- मोठ्या, स्फोटक, सुट्या घटना किंवा संघर्ष तितके गंभीर उरत नाहीत.
"बहुतांश विवाह किंवा नातेसंबंध आगीच्या भडक्यामुळे नव्हे, तर बर्फासारख्या थंडगार अवस्थेने संपुष्टात येतात," असं मॅकनल्टी सांगतात.
"कळीच्या समस्यांबाबत बोलणं किंवा त्या सोडवण्याचा प्रयत्न करणं काही जोडप्यांना खूप अवघड वाटतं. त्यामुळे ते एकमेकांपासून दुरावतात आणि रूममेट म्हणून राहू लागतात, त्यांच्यातलं पती-पत्नीचं किंवा प्रियकर-प्रेयसीचं नातं लोप पावतं."

त्यामुळे काही लोकांना जुन्या जोडीदारांशी पुन्हा जोडून घ्यावंसं वाटण्याची शक्यता असते, किंवा ते सध्याच्याच जोडीदाराशी बांधील राहायचा प्रयत्न करतात. आधीच्या नात्यापेक्षा नवीन नातं चांगलं असेल, या अपेक्षेनेच बहुतेकदा आपण नवीन नातं जोडत असतो.
या संदर्भात मॅकनल्टी सावधानतेचा इशारा देतात, "तुम्ही एखाद्या नात्यात असाल आणि त्या नात्यातून बाहेर पडण्याचा विचार करत असाल, तर सावध राहावं. कारण, तुम्ही 69 टक्के कायमस्वरूपी मतभेद असलेल्या जोडीदाराऐवजी दुसऱ्या 69 टक्के कायमस्वरूपी मतभेद असणाऱ्या जोडीदाराची निवड करत असता."
पण पूर्वाश्रमीच्या जोडीदाराच्या बाबतीत हे कायमस्वरूपी मतभेद काय आहेत हे आपल्याला आधीच किमान माहीत तरी असतं. नवीन कोणाला तरी भेटून शून्यातून सुरुवात करण्यापेक्ष आधीच्या नातेसंबंधांना उजाळा देणं अधिक सहजही वाटण्याची शक्यता असते.
"आधीचं नातं जिथे थांबलं होतं तिथून पुढे सुरू होतं," असं नातेसंबंध व सेक्स यांसंबंधीचे थेरपिस्ट आणि टिचर्स कॉलेज, कोलंबिया विद्यापीठ इथे मानसशास्त्र व शिक्षण या विषयाच्या संलग्न प्राध्यापिका राहिलेल्या ज्युडिथ कुरिआन्स्की म्हणतात.
"तुम्हाला जिच्याबद्दल काहीच माहीत नाही अशा व्यक्तीपेक्षा तुम्हाला ज्या व्यक्तीविषयी थोडीफार तरी माहिती आहे, त्या व्यक्तीकडे परत जाणं बरं," असं काही लोकांना वाटतं.
बदलांचा उत्सव करणं
तुम्ही दुरावलेले असतानाच्या काळात काय बदल झाले, याबद्दलची जागरूकता जुन्या जोडीदाराशी पुन्हा जुळवून घेताना लाभदायक ठरते. नवीन कोणाशी तरी नातं जोडताना तुमचे काही तोटे होतात, कारण त्या व्यक्तीची समज वाढली का आणि त्या व्यक्तीमध्ये कालानुसार काही सकारात्मक बदल झाले का, याबद्दल तुम्हाला माहिती नसते. जुन्या जोडीदाराबाबत मात्र आधीचे व नंतरचे अनेक संदर्भ माहीत असतात.
"आपण मोठे व प्रगल्भ झालो आहोत, असं वाटण्यातून जुन्या जोडीदारांशी नव्याने प्रेमसंबंध प्रस्थापित करण्याकडे कल असल्याचं बरेचदा दिसतं," असं कुरिआन्स्की नोंदवतात.
'फेनसिटी' या स्त्रियांचं संपर्कजाळं विणणाऱ्या मिआमीस्थित संघटनेच्या मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी व्हायोलेट द आयाला यांनी 20 वर्षांच्या खंडानंतर 2019 साली त्यांच्या पूर्वाश्रमीच्या नवऱ्याशी पुन्हा विवाह केला आणि त्याबद्दल जाहीर चर्चाही केली.
"आम्ही पुन्हा एकमेकांना भेटाबोलायला लागलो, तेव्हा चांगलं वाटत होतं. आम्ही एकमेकांना ओळखत होतो, हे त्यामागचं कारण होतंच, पण आमच्यातले काही घटक बदललेही होते," असं त्या सांगतात.
"वेगळे झालेले असताना आम्हाला कोणत्या गोष्टी सुधारण्याची गरज आहे, हे पाहून त्यात आम्ही बदल केले होते, आणि अनेक अर्थाने आम्ही एकमेकांसाठी 'नवे' होतो."
"आमच्यातल्या या सकारात्मक बदलांमुळे पुन्हा जोडून घेण्याची प्रक्रिया सुंदर झाली, तर ब्रेक-अपमधील वेदनांमधून वाटही काढता आली," असं द आयाला सांगतात.
"आता तो आमचे संबंध गृहित धरत नव्हता. तो मला विचारपूर्वक भेटवस्तू आणून द्यायला लागला होता आणि मधेच कधीतरी माझ्याबद्दलचं स्वतःचं प्रेम व्यक्त करत होता, कौतुक करत होता. आधी असं होत नव्हतं."
शिवाय, तुम्ही कोणापासून दीर्घ काळ लांब राहिला असाल, आणि मग पुन्हा एकत्र आला असाल, तर पुन्हा आधीचाच विखारी आकृतिबंध पुन्हा समोर येत असल्याचंही जाणवू शकतं. अशा वेळीसुद्धा पूर्वज्ञानाचा उपयोग होतो. तुम्हाला पुन्हा एकदा तशीच डोकेदुखी होणार असल्याचा अंदाज आला की तुम्ही हे संकट टाळू शकता.
"काही वेळा अनेक वर्षांची व नातेसंबंधांच्या अनुभवांची शहाणीव आल्यामुळे लोकांना वाटतं की, आपल्याला कोंडी फोडता येईल. पण आपले आधीचे न सुटलेले प्रश्न कोणते होते आणि आता त्यात खरोखरच काही बदल झाला आहे का, याचा प्रामाणिकपणे विचार करणं कळीचं ठरतं," असं मॅकनल्टी म्हणतात.
'अनिष्टसूचक प्रेम व सेक्स'
तुमच्या पूर्वाश्रमीच्या जोडीदाराचे 'डीएम' वाचण्यापूर्वी तुम्ही नक्की काय करताय याबद्दल स्वतःलाच परत विचारून पाहा- कारण, अशा नात्यांमध्ये बरेच गुंतेही होऊ शकतात.
पूर्वाश्रमीच्या जोडीदारासोबत पुन्हा नातं जोडताना ओळख किंवा निवांतपणा हा एक आनंदाचा भाग असतो, पण निवांतपणाची ही ओढ दिशाभूल करणारीही ठरू शकते, असं कुरिआन्स्की सांगतात.
विशेषतः अलीकडच्या काळात आपण सातत्याने अनागोंदी राहतो, तेव्हा असं घडण्याची जास्त शक्यता असते. गेल्या मे महिन्यात टाळेबंदीची सुरुवात होत होती, तेव्हा इंडियाना विद्यापीठातील किन्से इन्स्टिट्यूटने एक सर्वेक्षण केलं. सेक्स व नातेसंबंध यांचा अभ्यास करणारी ही संस्था आहे. त्यांच्या अभ्यासात असं आढळलं की, विलगीकरणात असताना सरासरी दर पाचांतील एक व्यक्ती पूर्वाश्रमीच्या जोडीदाराला संदेश पाठवत होती.

"याला मी 'अनिष्टसूचक प्रेम आणि सेक्स' म्हणेन," असं त्या सांगतात. "उद्या काही होणार नाही, त्यामुळे मी आताच काय ते करायला हवं, असा यामागचा भाव असतो."
आपत्ती व दहशतीच्या काळात लोक त्यांच्या गतकालीन प्रियकरांशी वा प्रेयसींशी पुन्हा जोडून घेण्याचा जात प्रयत्न करत असल्याचं आढळतं, असं कुरिआन्स्की म्हणतात.
"आता अफगाणिस्तानातील घटना, सर्वत्र होणाऱ्या नैसर्गिक आपत्ती, यांमुळे लोकांना ते प्रलंयकारी स्थितीत राहत असल्यासारखं वाटतं," मग त्यांना कधी ना कधी प्रेम व सुरक्षितता पुरवलेल्या व्यक्तीकडेपरत जावंसं वाटतं.
पण आपण जुन्या नात्याला पुन्हा का उजाळा देतो आहोत, याचा कठोर विचार करणं गरजेचं आहे. घाबरवणाऱ्या बातम्या पाहून अस्वस्थता आल्यामुळे तुम्ही जुन्या नात्यामध्ये आधार शोधू पाहत आहात का? तुम्हाला खरोखरच त्या नातेसंबंधांची ओढ वाटतेय का आणि हे नातेसंबंध टिकवून ठेवण्यासाठी खरोखर प्रयत्न करायची तुमची तयारी आहे का? या प्रश्नांसंदर्भात आत्मपरीक्षण करूनच पुढे जायला हवं.
पूर्वाश्रमीच्या जोडीदारासोबत पुन्हा नातं जोडण्यापूर्वी मित्रमैत्रिणी व कुटुंबीय यांच्या प्रतिक्रिया जाणून घेणंही महत्त्वाचं ठरतं, असा सल्ला कुरिआन्स्की देतात. अनेक जण नकारात्मक प्रतिक्रिया देण्याची शक्यता असते, विशेषतः आधीचं नातं वाईट पद्धतीने तुटलं असेल तर अशा प्रतिक्रिया जास्त येतात. पण यात आपल्या प्रियजनांकडून प्रकरणाचा निवाडा करणं, हा यामागचा उद्देश नसतो, तर आपण जमिनीवर यावं आणि असे नातेसंबंध अडचणीचे ठरण्यामागची कारणंही लक्षात घ्यावीत, एवढाच यामागचा उद्देश असतो.
"इतर लोकांच्या मतांसाठी तयार राहा. 'काय? तुम्ही परत एकत्र येताय? चेष्टा करताय का? कशाला?' असं बहुतांश लोक म्हणतील. तुमच्या जुन्या आठवणीही उगाळतील, त्याला तुम्ही कसं सामोरं जाणार आहात, हेसुद्धा ठरवावं लागतं," असं कुरिआन्स्की सांगतात.
या आठवणींना सामोरं जायला तयार राहा. "भूतकाळ भूतकाळातच ठेवणं, ही गोष्ट सर्वांत आव्हानात्मक असते,' असं द आयाला सांगतात.
"बराच इतिहास पुन्हा उगाळता येऊ कतो, पण इथून पुढे क्षमाशीलता, संवाद आणि नवीन नातं सुरू करण्याची भावना यांद्वारे परस्पर सहमती प्रस्थापित करणं गरजेचं असतं," तरच हे नातं भविष्यात टिकून राहतं, असं त्या म्हणतात.
आपल्यापैकी अनेक जण गमावलेल्या प्रेमाबद्दल झुरत असण्याची शक्यता असते. याबद्दल वास्तववादी व निरोगी दृष्टीने विचार केला, आणि दोन्ही व्यक्ती एकाच दिशेने विचार करत असतील, तर असे नातेसंबंध पुन्हा रुजण्याचीही शक्यता असते.
