थोर अध्यात्मिक व धार्मिक परंपरेमुळे जगात भारत इतरांपेक्षा वेगळा देश आहे. त्यामुळे येथे जन्माला येणे अतिशय भाग्याचे आहे. येथे जे आहे ते इतरत्र नाही. याचे उल्लेख अनेक श्लोकांतही आढळतात.

भारते च क्षणं जन्म सार्थक शुभ कर्मदम्।।
वरील पदाचा पुराणात आध्यात्मिक आणि सखोल अर्थ आहे. भारतात अनेक तीर्थक्षेत्रे आहेत. या तीर्थक्षेत्रांत शक्ती पीठाचे विशेष महत्त्व आहे. अशा शक्ती पीठात साधना करून अनेक साधू-संतांनी परमतत्वाचा प्रत्यक्ष अनुभव घेतला आहे. प्राचीन काळातील ऋषी-मुनींची नावे आजही मोठ्या श्रद्धेने घेतली जातात. परमतत्वाचा अनुभव प्राप्त झालेले स्वामी करपात्री महाराज उर्फ महोपाध्याय गोपीनाथ कविराज यांच्या नावाचा उल्लेख आजही विसाव्या शतकात केला जातो. अनेक पाश्चात्य विद्वानांनी भारताच्या पावन भूमीवर स्वत:ला परमतत्व दर्शनाच्या अंतिम टप्प्यावर पोहचविले आहे. आज या विद्वानांमध्ये श्री श्री आनंदमयी आणि सर जॉन वुडरोफके यांचे नाव सर्वांनाच माहित आहे. शिवाय अनेक पाश्चात्य पंडितांनी धार्मिक ग्रंथही लिहिले आहेत.
संत-महंतांनी येथील तीर्थस्थानांवर वास्तव्य करून जगाच्या कल्यणासाठी जप, यज्ञ, तपस्या केली आहे. जगात आध्यात्मिकतेचा दिव्य संदेश प्रसारीत केला. या ठिकाणांना आपल्या तपाच्या प्रभावाने जागृत बनविले. या तीर्थक्षेत्रांत शक्ती पीठाचे विशेष महत्त्व आहे. शक्ती अर्थात महामाया जी संपूर्ण जगाला यंत्राप्रमाणे चालू ठेवते. पीठ म्हणजे निवास राहण्यासाठी योग्य ठिकाण होय.
भारतात 51 शक्तीपीठे असल्याचे पुराणात सांगितले आहे. त्यापैकी हिंगलाज (बलुचिस्तानच्या अंतर्गत), तक्षशीला (पश्चिम पाकिस्तानच्या अंतर्गत), चंद्रनाथ पर्वत (बांगलादेशाच्या अंतर्गत) आहेत.
सध्याच्या शक्तीपीठांपैंकी 'कामाख्या शक्तीपीठ' हे एक रहस्यमय आणि चमत्कारी शक्तीपीठ आहे. या शक्तीपीठाला कामरूप-कामाख्या शक्तीपीठ असेही म्हटले जाते. हे ठिकाण सध्या आसामधील गुवाहाटी येथे आहे. शिव आपली पत्नी 'सती'च्या मृ्त्यूने दु:खी झाला होता. तिचा मृतदेह आपल्या खांद्यावर घेऊन तो त्रिलोकात भ्रमण करू लागला तेव्हा भगवान विष्णूने जगाला या प्रलयापासून वाचविण्यासाठी सतीच्या मृतदेहाचे आपल्या सुदर्शन चक्राने तुकडे-तुकडे केले. मृतदेहाचे 51 तुकडे झाले व ते सर्व पृथ्वीवर पडले. म्हणून त्या सर्वांना शक्तीपीठ असे म्हटले जात असल्याचे पुराणात सांगितले आहे. या सर्व शक्तीपीठात 'कामाख्या' शक्तीपीठ हे चमत्कारीक शक्तीपीठ म्हणून ओळखले जाते.
सतीच्या शरीरापैकी योनी जेथे पडली त्या नीलांचल पर्वतावर कामाख्या शक्तीपीठ (सध्याचे गुवाहाटी) आहे. याला योनी-पीठ असेही म्हणतात. या शक्तीपीठाचे वैशिष्ट्य म्हणजे ज्याप्रमाणे सामान्य स्त्रीला तीन दिवस मासिक पाळी येते, त्याप्रमाणे प्रत्येक वर्षी आषाढात आर्द्रा नक्षत्राच्या पहिल्या चरणात सूर्याने प्रवेश केल्यावर तीन दिवस सामान्य स्त्रीप्रमाणे देवीच्या योनीतून रक्तस्त्राव सुरू होतो. याला अंबुवाचा योग असे म्हणतात. अंबुवाचा योग म्हणजे योनीतून तीन दिवसापर्यंत रक्तस्त्राव होत राहणे. यादरम्यान मंदिरात विशिष्ट प्रकारची साधना केली जाते. यावेळी लाखो भाविक येथे दर्शनासाठी येतात.
अन्य स्थाने वृथा जन्म निष्फलम् गतागतम्।
भारते च क्षणं जन्म सार्थक शुभ कर्मदम्।।
वरील पदाचा पुराणात आध्यात्मिक आणि सखोल अर्थ आहे. भारतात अनेक तीर्थक्षेत्रे आहेत. या तीर्थक्षेत्रांत शक्ती पीठाचे विशेष महत्त्व आहे. अशा शक्ती पीठात साधना करून अनेक साधू-संतांनी परमतत्वाचा प्रत्यक्ष अनुभव घेतला आहे. प्राचीन काळातील ऋषी-मुनींची नावे आजही मोठ्या श्रद्धेने घेतली जातात. परमतत्वाचा अनुभव प्राप्त झालेले स्वामी करपात्री महाराज उर्फ महोपाध्याय गोपीनाथ कविराज यांच्या नावाचा उल्लेख आजही विसाव्या शतकात केला जातो. अनेक पाश्चात्य विद्वानांनी भारताच्या पावन भूमीवर स्वत:ला परमतत्व दर्शनाच्या अंतिम टप्प्यावर पोहचविले आहे. आज या विद्वानांमध्ये श्री श्री आनंदमयी आणि सर जॉन वुडरोफके यांचे नाव सर्वांनाच माहित आहे. शिवाय अनेक पाश्चात्य पंडितांनी धार्मिक ग्रंथही लिहिले आहेत.
संत-महंतांनी येथील तीर्थस्थानांवर वास्तव्य करून जगाच्या कल्यणासाठी जप, यज्ञ, तपस्या केली आहे. जगात आध्यात्मिकतेचा दिव्य संदेश प्रसारीत केला. या ठिकाणांना आपल्या तपाच्या प्रभावाने जागृत बनविले. या तीर्थक्षेत्रांत शक्ती पीठाचे विशेष महत्त्व आहे. शक्ती अर्थात महामाया जी संपूर्ण जगाला यंत्राप्रमाणे चालू ठेवते. पीठ म्हणजे निवास राहण्यासाठी योग्य ठिकाण होय.
भारतात 51 शक्तीपीठे असल्याचे पुराणात सांगितले आहे. त्यापैकी हिंगलाज (बलुचिस्तानच्या अंतर्गत), तक्षशीला (पश्चिम पाकिस्तानच्या अंतर्गत), चंद्रनाथ पर्वत (बांगलादेशाच्या अंतर्गत) आहेत.
