केदारनाथ मंदिर हे चार धामांपैकी एक आहे, उत्तराखंडच्या हिमालय पर्वतावर असलेल्या केदारनाथ मंदिराला बरीच मान्यता आहे. केदारनाथ हे पर्वतरांगेमध्ये स्थित एक प्रमुख तीर्थक्षेत्र आहे, जिथे भगवान शिव यांचे ज्योतिर्लिंग स्थापित आहे. 3584 मीटर उंचीवर असलेले केदारनाथ मंदिराचे हे ज्योतिर्लिंग सर्व 12 ज्योतिर्लिंगांपैकी सर्वात महत्वाचे आहे. केदारनाथ मंदिराची खास गोष्ट म्हणजे हे मंदिर केवळ एप्रिल ते नोव्हेंबर दरम्यान दर्शनासाठी उघडते आणि लोक वर्षभर केदारनाथ मंदिरात येण्याची वाट पाहतात. येथील प्रतिकूल वाऱ्यामुळे केदार घाटी हिवाळ्यात पूर्णपणे बर्फाने झाकलेली असते. विशेष गोष्ट म्हणजे यानंतर त्याचे मुहूर्त उघडण्यासाठी आणि बंद करण्यासाठी देखील काढले जाते, परंतु तरीही ते सहसा 15 नोव्हेंबरपूर्वी बंद होते आणि 6 महिन्यांनंतर एप्रिलमध्ये पुन्हा उघडले जाते. या स्थितीत केदारनाथ मंदिराची पंचमुखी मूर्ती उखीमठ येथे आणली जाते, जिथे अर्चना रावलजी त्याची पूजा करतात. असे म्हटले जाते की जो बद्रीनाथला गेला आणि केदारनाथला भेट दिली नाही, त्याचा प्रवास अपूर्ण मानला जातो.
केदारनाथ मंदिर इतिहास
तसे, केदारनाथ मंदिराचा इतिहास खूप गौरवशाली आहे, ज्याशी अनेक कथा संबंधित आहेत. असे म्हटले जाते की भगवान विष्णूचे अवतार नर आणि नारायण ऋषी हिमालयातील केदार शृंगावर तपश्चर्या करत असत. त्याची खरी उपासना पाहून भगवान शंकर प्रकट झाले आणि त्यांची प्रार्थना स्वीकारली, त्यांना नेहमी ज्योतिर्लिंगात राहण्याचे वरदान दिले. तर दुसरी कथा पंचकेदारशी संबंधित आहे. असे मानले जाते की महाभारताचे युद्ध जिंकल्यानंतर पांडवांना भात्राच्या हत्येच्या पापातून मुक्त व्हायचे होते. भगवान शंकराच्या दर्शनासाठी पांडव काशीला गेले, पण जेव्हा भगवान शंकर त्यांना येथे सापडले नाहीत, तेव्हा त्यांनी त्यांचे दर्शन घेण्यासाठी हिमालय गाठले. पण भगवान शंकर त्याला पाहू इच्छित नव्हते, म्हणून तो केदार खोऱ्यात स्थायिक झाला, पण पांडवही त्यांच्या जिद्दीवर ठाम होते, ते त्यांच्या मागे केदारकडे गेले. भगवान शंकर त्याचा संकल्प पाहून प्रसन्न झाले आणि त्यांना दर्शन दिले. केदारनाथला पंचकेदार म्हणूनही ओळखले जाते. शिवाचे हात टंगुनाथ, रुद्रनाथ मध्ये तोंड, माडमेश्वर मध्ये नाभी आणि कल्पेश्वर मध्ये जटा दिसले, म्हणूनच केदारनाथला या चार ठिकाणांसह पंचकेदार म्हटले जाते.

वास्तुकला
हे मंदिर वास्तुकलेचा एक आकर्षक आणि अद्भुत नमुना आहे. केदारनाथ मंदिराची कारागिरी तितकीच पाहण्यासारखी आहे. हे मंदिर सहा फूट उंच चौकोनी व्यासपीठावर बांधले आहे. हे मंदिर असलार शैलीत बांधलेले आहे, ज्यामध्ये दगड स्लॅब किंवा सिमेंटशिवाय एकमेकांशी जोडलेले आहेत. मंदिर परिसराचा उल्लेख महाभारतातही आढळतो. मंदिराला गर्भगृह आहे. या गर्भगृहात तीक्ष्ण खडकाची सदाशिवाच्या रूपात शिवाची पूजा केली जाते, तर अंगणाच्या बाहेर नंदी बैलगाडीच्या रूपात बसलेला असतो. मंदिराच्या मागे अनेक कुंड आहेत, ज्यात आचमन आणि तर्पण करता येते.
असे म्हटले जाते की हे मंदिर पांडव घराण्याच्या जनमेजयाने बांधले होते आदि शंकराचार्यांनी या मंदिराचा जीर्णोद्धार केला होता. हे मंदिर किती जुने आहे याचा पुरावा नाही, परंतु असे म्हटले जाते की हे मंदिर 12 ते 13 व्या शतकातील आहे. श्रद्धेनुसार हे मंदिर 8 व्या शतकात शंकराचार्यांनी बांधले होते.
कथा
केदारनाथ शिवलिंगाची कथा जाणून घेण्यासाठी केदारनाथला भेट देणाऱ्या भाविकांमध्ये खूप उत्सुकता असते. या मागे एक रोचक कथा देखील आहे. भगवान शिव पांडवांना भेटू इच्छित नव्हते. पण पांडव देखील त्यांच्या तळमळीवर ठाम होते आणि ते शिवाचे दर्शन घेण्यासाठी प्रत्येक धोका पत्करण्यास तयार होते. भगवान शंकराला भेटण्यासाठी पांडव केदारला पोहचताच परमेश्वराने बैलाचे रूप धारण केले आणि इतर प्राण्यांमध्ये सामील झाले. जरी पांडवांना याची जाणीव होती, परंतु हे सत्य समोर आणण्यासाठी, पांडव भीमाने आपले विशाल रूप धारण केले आणि दोन पर्वतांवर पाय पसरले. इतर सर्व प्राणी बाहेर आले, पण शंकरजी बैलाच्या रूपात पांडवांच्या पायांपासून खाली जाण्यास तयार नव्हते, जेव्हा भीम डोलला आणि बैलाचा त्रिकोणात्मक पाठीचा भाग पकडला त्या काळापासून भगवान शंकर बैलाच्या मागील आकृतीच्या रूपात स्थायिक झाले आणि आजपर्यंत केदारनाथ म्हणून पूजले जातात.

जर कोणी केदारनाथ यात्रा पूर्ण करून संध्याकाळी इथे परतण्याचा विचार करत असेल तर तो संध्याकाळी सहज इथे परतू शकतो. पण गौरीकुंड वरून सोनप्रयागला जाणे खूप कठीण आहे. या वेळेला इथे खूप गर्दी असते. दुसरे म्हणजे, येथे लॉजमध्ये राहण्यासाठी खोल्या शोधणे कठीण होते. मे-जूनमध्ये इतकी गर्दी असते की 4 ते 5 हजार प्रवासी फूटपाथवर झोपतात.
केदारनाथ यात्रेमध्ये 12 वर्षाखालील मुलांना सोबत घेऊ नका. येथे बर्फ पडल्याने वादळाचा खूप धोका आहे. येथे ऑक्सिजनची पातळी 3000 मीटरपेक्षा कमी आहे.
